Reefer cargo terminals

The reefer terminals we manage in Trieste are both located in the Customs Free Port and in the Industrial Port, and also include warehouses for general cargo. 

In the past, while the port was acting as an emporium and containerized goods were not so popular yet, fresh fruits and vegetables reached Trieste in bulk carriers, were stored still unsold, and wholesalers and retailers would enter the port to pick single lots and import them into Italy or Europe. 

Nowadays, traffic flows and markets have changed, but these warehouses still fit as a hub for fresh produce into Europe, where they are distributed smoothly by truck, as all infrastructures are connected by rail and close to the highway entrance. 

The same warehouses also include non-reefer rooms for general cargo, which is why they are certified and authorized to operate by the London Metal Exchange (LME) to store non-ferrous metals, such as aluminium, cobalt, copper, lead, molybdenum, nickel, tin and zinc, and the London International Financial & Futures Exchange (LIFFE) to stock other commodities, the most popular of which in Trieste are coffee and tea. They are both used for financial and physical trading, according to the needs and requirements of the goods' owners and buyers needs. 

The terminal staff can load and discharge the batches, take inventory, handle, pack/unpack and palletize the goods, customs clear them and cater for phytosanitary controls.
