nlcomp (Northern Light Composites) was founded in 2019 from the shared passion for the sea and innovation of three lifelong friends and sailors. Growing up together on sailboats, they were driven by a desire to make a positive impact in the world of sailing by building a sustainable, recyclable, and forward-thinking boat.
Mission: to lead the transition of the composites industry towards a circular and sustainable model, addressing the end-of-life challenges posed by traditional materials such as fiberglass.
The company has patented and developed rComposite, a recyclable composite material that offers a sustainable alternative to fiberglass. It stands out for its flexible production process, full disassembly and recyclability, and a short, fully European supply chain—positioning nlcomp as a reference point in the sustainable transformation of composite materials.
Initially used to build fully sustainable sailboats—successfully validating the technology in the field—rComposite has since been applied to other key sectors for decarbonization, such as renewable energy (with wind sector prototypes) and structural components for industrial facilities.
Thanks to its vision from the sea to industry, nlcomp brings together technological innovation and environmental sustainability, delivering concrete solutions across strategic sectors.
On the entrepreneurial side, nlcomp raised around €600,000 through equity crowdfunding campaigns between 2021 and 2022. In March 2025, the company closed a new investment round of over €600,000, led by Samer & Co Shipping, with the participation of CDP Venture Capital and Zest. The startup also took part in the Encubator acceleration program by PoliHub, Zero by CDP Venture Capital and Zest, and was recently selected for Unicredit Start Lab.
nlcomp has also launched Northern Light, a dedicated brand for the sailing sector.
