On the 23rd November, the yearly ranking of the 500 best-performing regional companies issued by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), was unveiled during an ad-hoc event held in Trieste. In the 2022 edition, Samer & Co. Shipping jumped a formidable 29 places, from the 152nd to the 123rd spot in 2021, recorded a turnover increase by about 49% and ranked first among ship agencies.
During the event the panellists were asked to share views about the regional economy resources, with an eye to the upcoming challenges.
Enrico Samer, as a leading member of the local business community, defined Trieste as a natural logistic platform, whose port is able to generate powerful centripetal and centrifugal forces with positive impacts on the regional economy. It is getting increasingly central in Europe after the change of the logistic setups - as a result of the pandemic - and suited to establishing itself as an excellence hub to implement the current intermodal traffic flows and develop new ones from the Mediterranean countries to Northern Europe.
He spoke about Samer & Co. Shipping’s strategic role in the regional logistic context and the Turkey-Europe Sea Highway model that, after 35 years of steady progress, can be now replicated on other maritime routes involving all those Mediterranean countries expected to become locations for significant productions and therefore generate traffics.
He ended his speech by saying that he greatly welcomes the recent commitment by the Port of Trieste on developing inland buffer areas, whereby road haulage can be streamlined and any disruption avoided, as well as congestion issues in port areas.
