On the 6th September our President and CEO, Enrico Samer, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with AB-LTG Cargo (one of the largest rail freight companies in the Baltic countries), together with Società Alpe Adria and Duisport Agency, to start an intermodal link between Kaunas and Trieste, supported by the Italian and Lithuanian Governments.
Further to the exploratory visit we received on the 21st July by Laura Šerėnienė, the Lithuanian pro-tempore Ambassador in Italy, from the 5th to the 7th September our President and CEO, Enrico Samer, welcomed to Trieste a large Lithuanian delegation to concretely discuss about new business opportunities resulting from the future implementation of transport connections from Lithuania to Italy, having Trieste as a strategic hub for the Baltic countries.
The visit led to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on the 6th September, specifically aimed at linking Baltic and Adriatic Sea by opening a new intermodal connection between Kaunas’ intermodal terminal and the Friuli Venezia Giulia logistic system - having Cervignano and Duisburg inland ports as in-between hubs - as well as developing freight transport between the Baltic Sea countries and Italy. To further highlight the significance of this first bilateral initiative, the ceremony saw the presence of the Lithuanian Minister of Transport and Communication, Mr. Marius Skuodis, and the Italian Minister of Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility, Mr. Enrico Giovannini.
