The Lithuanian Government is looking at our port and infrastructures for the development of new intermodal connections
The Port of Trieste is the first in Italy for rail services and volumes, with almost 10,000 trains operated yearly and the continuous commitment to expanding its network of connections. It is with such perspective, together with the need to find alternative routes to the goods’ flows forced by the recent international events, that the Lithuanian Government is looking at our port and infrastructures.
The first step to evaluate new intermodal connections between Trieste and the Baltic country was the visit from Rome by the Lithuanian pro-tempore Ambassador, in charge of economic affairs, Laura Šerėnienė. During her trip she visited the facilities of the Customs Free Port and the Industrial Port and had talks with the Port Authority, meeting the President Zeno D’Agostino, with Società Alpe Adria, responsible for developing intermodal services in the port, meeting the CEO Antonio Gurrieri and the General manager Angelo Aulicino, and our main company, Samer & Co. Shipping, with our President & CEO Enrico Samer.
Besides planning together, the most suitable solutions for intermodal connections, an additional institutional visit to Trieste has been planned in autumn by a delegation from the Lithuanian transport and logistics Ministry, in order to boost the bilateral relations in this sector.
