Trieste as a gateway for Algeria

New possible development projects on the horizon
Samer & Co. Shipping and WTC Trieste, respectively represented by the President and CEO Enrico Samer and the CEO Cristina Sbaizero, recently met the President of ANCA, the Algerian association of retailers and artisans, Hadj Tahar Boulenouar, and his delegation, including the association's representatives in Italy.

This first contact was promoted by WTC Trieste and originated by the will from the Algerian Government to make Trieste its hub to export and distribute the national fresh produce in Central and Northern Europe, but also to enter the markets of South-Eastern Europe where Samer & Co. Shipping has the structured network of subsidiaries managed by Samer International.

Exporting fruits and vegetables is the first step of a larger project that the delegation explained on behalf of the national government, which for instance aims at turning Algeria into a hub for the imports and exports of its neighboring countries Libya, Mali, Niger, Mauritania and Burkina Faso. That is going to be greatly helped by a newly-built highway linking Northern and Southern Algeria with the borders of all such countries.

The meeting ended with the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding between the parties involved. Once again, the Port of Trieste is confirmed as the gateway for Europe, from a North African and Mediterranean perspective too.
