Port of Trieste: an international hub for land-sea interchange flows
Located in the heart of Europe, at the intersection between the shipping routes and the Baltic-Adriatic and Mediterranean TEN-T core network corridors, the Port of Trieste is an international hub for land-sea interchange flows affecting the dynamic market of Central and Eastern Europe.
With its over 300 years of history the Port of Trieste can count on:
about 2.3 million sq.m of Port areas, of which about 1.8 million sq.m of customs free zone;
about 925,000 sq.m of storage areas of which about 500,000 sq.m are covered;
12 km of docks;
58 berths (for general cargo vessels, container ships, multi-purpose vessels, Ro-Ro/ferries, oil tankers, chemical tankers, cruise vessels, etc.);
70 km of rail tracks.
However one detail is missing in the above list, that makes the port of Trieste unique in the Mediterranean Sea.
It is the maximum vessels’ draught which in the Port of Trieste can be up to 17.02 meters.
The draught is a very important requirement that cargo vessels take into consideration for mooring at ports. It is the height of vessels remaining immersed in the water and therefore between the waterline and the keel lower point. The greater the draught allowed, the greater the load that vessels will be able to move to Trieste.
And what are the other benefits of our port for its Customs Free Port status:
