The investments will serve to improve port infrastructures and increase railway connections.
40 million euros have been allocated to implement the infrastructural equipment of the port and increase its railway capacity increasing it, by 2025, from the current 5 thousand trains to 25 thousand/year.
The investment comes from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and is part of a larger development plan of the national port system. 23 infrastructure projects presented by Italian port authorities will be financed with a fund of € 960 million, including the Trieste one. Trieste thus aims at acquiring new market shares thanks to its greater railway capacity, increasing the level of competitiveness compared to Rotterdam and Hamburg.
The funding will allow the Port Authority of Trieste to better connect the port to the efficient national railway network of the entire system which today mainly serves the industrial areas of North East Italy and Central Europe: among the destinations there are Austria, Germany, the Republic Czech, Hungary, Switzerland and Luxembourg.
